The UPRAISE project held its official kick-off meeting in Grenoble on 3–4 September 2026, bringing together representatives from all 16 partner organisations for two days of planning, discussion and first introductions.
Funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, UPRAISE is a four-year Innovation Action tackling one of the continent’s most pressing industrial challenges: what happens to batteries when they reach the end of their working life. Every year, more electric vehicles and energy storage systems arrive at that point, and with them come valuable materials — lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt and manganese — that Europe currently struggles to recover at scale. UPRAISE is developing processes to reclaim them efficiently, whatever the battery chemistry.
Hosted by project coordinator CEA, the meeting opened with an overview of the project’s objectives before moving into detailed sessions on each of the work packages. Partners presented their planned activities, mapped out the dependencies between technical teams, and agreed the first milestones for the months ahead. Work package 7, which covers communication, dissemination and exploitation, set out how the project’s results will reach industry, policymakers and the wider public over the coming four years — beginning with this website.
With the consortium now assembled and the roadmap agreed, UPRAISE moves into its first phase of technical work. Follow the project here and on LinkedIn for updates as the results come in.
